2009 FASCO/FALI Educational Conference a Huge Success!
This past Memorial Day was not only a special weekend honoring our nation’s veterans, it was also a hugely successful opportunity for security and investigative professionals from across the country to meet, network, learn and share. One of the first of its kind, this event paired two of the largest professional security and investigator organizations in the state: the Florida Association of Security Companies and the Florida Association of Licensed Investigators. The gathering, which took place in Orlando, Florida, featured twenty-seven highly recognized professional educators and speakers from across the spectrum of the security and investigative industries. Areas of instruction filled the gamut of our industries, from security operations, basic business principles, business methodologies, surveillance operations, leadership and new equipment technologies. Attendees welcomed the appearance and words from Senator Carey Baker, currently seeking the office of Florida’s Commissioner of Agriculture, who provided an excellent update on the legislature and his agenda to support Chapter 493 licensees should he be elected. FASCO/FALI Lobbyist Ben Poitevent, Esq., presented an in-depth break down of licensee disciplinary processes and rights and along with David Minacci, Esq., offered the audience a brief overview of a proposed DOL Regulatory Board. Attendees were also treated with the opportunity to meet and interact with nearly two dozen vendors many of who cater specifically to our industries. Many thanks to Tracer’s Information Specialists, Safariland, El Dorado Insurance and Costanza Insurance, all of whom provided significant financial support to make this event possible. The weekend was not without a little rest and relaxation, and of course the entertainment! Many folks turned out for the Friday evening social which featured live entertainment by local musician Anthony Gobbi (as well as a few guest appearances from the audience!) Tracer’s Information Specialists hosted two separate poker tournaments each of which were a huge success. The event culminated Saturday night, with our banquet and awards dinner. Congratulations to Rory McMahon, who received the esteemed designation of Florida Certified Investigator of the Year, Tim O'Rourke who was elected to the FALI board as First Vice President, and of course, Rick Neal, who took home honors as “Top Gun” in the pistol competition. The evening closed with a very special appearance and Memorial Day Tribute by Elvis. Many thanks to Steve Craig who worked around the clock, and all the volunteers and contributors who made this event possible. This was the year’s paramount gathering of professionals that truly shows the spirit and importance of unity within our industries.
The FASCO elections were held during the conference and here's how you voted:
